Press release on a commemorative event in the Russian Foreign Ministry dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Nazi defeat in the Battle of Stalingrad

A commemorative event dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Soviet troops defeating the Nazis in the Battle of Stalingrad took place at the Foreign Ministry's Reception House on February 1. Senior officials from the Foreign Ministry were joined by representatives of the diplomatic corps, both chambers of the Federal Assembly, the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, public and veteran organisations, and media outlets.

Speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov mentioned the contribution made by Soviet diplomats to the common cause of defending our Fatherland, fostering the anti-Hitler coalition and creating the most favourable international conditions for the rapid defeat of the enemy.

Mr Lavrov stressed that erecting a sturdy barrier to the spread of ideas of intolerance, xenophobia, racial, national or other superiority is our sacred duty to those who paid with their blood and lives to save humankind from the horrors of the fascist scourge.

During the event, guests looked over the display of documents and materials from Foreign Policy Archives of the Russian Federation and the State Archive of Film and Photo Documents.
