On December 23, the UN General Assembly approved by consensus the resolution Cooperation Between the UN and ASEAN, which Russia co-authored.

The document confirms the consolidated commitment of both organisations to enhance coordination in such priority areas as supporting global and regional stability, countering terrorism and ensuring sustainable development. The adoption of the resolution is evidence of ASEAN’s growing influence on the international stage and its increasing role in the Asian-Pacific region.

Russia is prepared to further contribute to forging multidimensional ties between the ASEAN member states and leading multilateral associations in line with the establishment of network diplomacy mechanisms and in keeping with the agreements reached at the Russia-ASEAN summit in Sochi in May 2016 on comprehensively strengthening the Russian-ASEAN partnership and bringing it to a strategic level.
